Andriessen’s H(out) & H(oketus)

Ensemble Klang join forces with Asko|Schönberg for performances of two iconic classics by Louis Andriessen, Hout and Hoketus. Asko|Schönberg contributed to the worldwide fame of Louis Andriessen with performances of groundbreaking works such as De Materie and De Staat.
Like no other, Andriessen forged a mixture of European avant-garde, American minimal (Philip Glass, Steve Reich) and jazz (Stan Kenton) into something completely new: energetic, unruly and funky. With Hoketus Andriessen introduced his own interpretation of minimal, far removed from the distant and relaxed sound of many American contemporaries and their “corresponding cosmic nonsense”, in the words of Andriessen himself. The relentlessly primal double quintet Hoketus is one of the most radical examples of Andriessen’s style and is a timeless and still inspiring breakthrough for a new generation of musicians. The more recent Hout is a densely glued jazz canon cut from the same Hague School aesthetics as Hoketus.
