Album launch Maya Verlaak’s Vanishing Point

On the final day of the festival, we will play three brand new pieces by nominees Lucy McKnight, Patrick Ellis and Beniamino Fiorino.

This concert also doubles as an album presentation of our new album Vanishing Point, with three works for the musicians of Ensemble Klang by Gaudeamus Award 2024 juror Maya Verlaak. Interactive scores, musical puzzles lead to unique sonic encounters for performers and listeners. The title track, for percussion solo and live electronics, explores the point at which resonance disappears, where sound becomes pure ambience. It typifies a form of fragile openness, present in all three works, that reveals the humanity of Verlaak’s musical process, a humanity that keeps control and chaos in a constant state of tension. The album appears both on CD and online with complete videos of all three works and contextual notes by Belgian music philosopher Tomas Serrien.
