Live it up at this Minimal Rave during King’s Night! This standing concert in the Conservatoriumzaal will be an unforgettable experience. First immerse yourself in the finest minimal music by Philip Glass before going crazy with the danceable, energetic Hoketus by Louis Andriessen.

Go wild during Amare’s special King’s Night event: Minimal Rave! This seatless concert in the Conservatoriumzaal has the makings of an unforgettable experience. For starters, you will be emerged in the most beautiful minimal music by Philip Glass, after which it is time to party to the rhythmic, energetic Hoketus by our own celebrated, Dutch star-composer Louis Andriessen.

Music in Similar Motion
“The real innovation in “Similar Motion” is its sense of drama. The earlier pieces were meditative, steady-state pieces that established a mood and stayed there. But “Similar Motion” starts with one voice, then adds another playing a fourth above the original line, and then another playing a fourth below the original line, and finally a bass line kicks in to complete the sound. As each new voice enters, there is a dramatic change in the music.”
— Philip Glass

Hoketus
In Hoketus, the foundational element is the hocket technique. This technique, in use since the Middle-Ages, is characterised by the division of the notes of a melody over multiple performers. In Hoketus, the ensemble is split up in two identical groups (consisting of panflute, tenor saxophone, Fender piano, piano and conga’s), which don’t play simultaneously but rather complement each other. However, there is a catch: Hoketus, in terms of harmony and melody offers a more spiced-up variant of Amerrican minimalism.
