The Art of Doing Nothing (Stephanie Pan)
Rewire is an annual international festival for adventurous music. Across four days from 4 – 7 April 2024, Rewire will return to The Hague with its thirteenth festival edition, bringing together a wide range of musical and interdisciplinary performances, specially commissioned works, club nights, installations, talks, screenings, and more.
On the third day of the festival, Stephanie Pan and Ensemble Klang will perform Stephanie’s latest work: The Art of Doing Nothing: a feminist manifesto (2024).
The piece takes an anti-rationalist approach, grounding itself in soft, “feminine” qualities like vulnerability and emotionality. It celebrates intuitive choices and the transformative processes that can happen when one is lost. In this glorious space of “not knowing,” the performers present a sonic roller-coaster that moves through dramatic song, delicate soundscapes, no-wave saxophone chaos, drones and ritualistic feedback, post-punk noise, and pounding tekno beats.
