Sonic Phantoms (Barbara Ellison) + Roulette & Nomad (Maya Verlaak)

On the 8th March we return to one of our favourite regular venues, De Link in Tilburg, with the world premiere of three new works by Maya Verlaak, and the first glimpse of a new large-scale project with Barbara Ellison. Both Verlaak and Ellison are Ensemble Klang Associate Makers, working with the group across a two year period to develop new projects.

Maya Verlaak unveils a series of interactive scores, in which the notes played by the live musicians alter the notes on the scores in front of them in real-time, creating playful, unpredictable musical environments. Verlaak has written Nomad for Klang’s three wind players, Vanishing Point for Joey Marijs as solo percussionist and Roulette for Avenue Azure (the piano and percussion duo of Pete Harden and Saskia Lankhoorn). The latter received an online performance in Musical Utopias in 2021. 

From Barbara Ellison we present the first fragments of an evening-length experimental music-theatre project CyberSongs & CyberPersonas. Based on her cycle of CyberSongs, Ellison is developing a live theatrical version of her transhuman song cycle together with Nathalie Smoor for premiere in 2023. Here we perform the first elements scored for Ensemble Klang.
