The Big Loud Thing #2
Ensemble Klang present a series of pop-up concerts in public spaces that celebrates Orkest De Volharding: Louis Andriessen and Willem Breuker’s street orchestra, founded fifty years ago today.
Free-thinking, colourful and co-operative, De Volharding’s saxophones, brass and piano repertoire blends contemporary music with jazz, pop and avant-garde. With a key role in Dutch ensemble culture, De Volharding commissioned hundreds of works from leading composers, thrilling audiences and inspiring the next generation of artists.
Ensemble Klang join forces with musicians from 9×13 to sketch five decades of rousing repertoire. The five pop-up concerts include works by Louis Andriessen, Julia Wolfe, Hanna Kulenty, Misha Mengelberg, Steve Martland and many many many more.
