Associate maker Job Oberman/Oceanic

Job Oberman, the Dutch producer better known as Oceanic, navigates between house, techno and ambient to create evocative music that sits comfortably between intimate sonic expressions and trailblazing club jams.

‘A Sonically Open City’ was his first collaboration with Ensemble Klang, where we spent 2021 moving around the city of The Hague, filming and recording the musicians interactions with its sound world. Taken as a whole, the work forms a profile of The Hague, celebrating the diversity of its landscapes and natures, and chatting the breadth of activity that continues to take place within it. Due to Covid regulations the premiere could not take place at Musical Utopias #4 in January 2022 as planned and the work eventually premiered at the Muziekgebouw in February 2022.

The second piece that Job Oberman developed with Ensemble Klang was Your Rhythm – Our Rhythm, an evening-length work exploring the sonically-immersive and ecstatic elements of club culture. The work premiered at Musical Utopias #6, January 2024.
