Associate maker Rozalie Hirs

Rozalie Hirs is a Dutch composer and poet. With her compositional techniques, she searches for the effect of sound, psychoacoustic phenomena, and emotion in music. Hirs’ compositional techniques are characterized by the processing of psychoacoustic phenomena, acoustic laws of the string, numerical ratios, prime numbers and microtones. For Rozalie Hirs, the listening experience is very important.

Rozalie Hirs’s Associate Maker project runs across 2023 and 2024 and takes in two projects. In 2023 we performed her magnum opus Dreams of Airs, in a special extended version of Ensemble Klang. In the autumn of 2024 we’ll bring a brand new work in premiere. The work is scored for the core sextet of Ensemble Klang.
