Matthew Wright
Matt Wright was recently the musical director for Ivo van Hove’s NETWORK at the National Theatre starring Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), with music by Eric Sleichim. He works internationally as a composer, turntablist and sound artist, making scores, improvisations, installations and experimental hip hop with some of the most dynamic artists on the contemporary scene, such as Ensemble Klang, Keir Neuringer, Spring Heel Jack, Bl!ndman, Alexander Hawkins Ensemble, B’Rock, Peter Evans, Ikue Mori and Nate Wooley, The Six Tones, Ensemble Offspring and CEPROMusic.
His works have been presented at The Sydney Opera House, Abbey Road Studios, Muziekgebouw ann ‘t IJ (Amsterdam), Le Poisson Rouge (NYC), Kim Ma Theatre (Hanoi) and the Palacio de Bellas Artes (Mexico City), with reviews in the New York Times and a two-hour focus on his work with the Australian ABC network. He studied in Huddersfield with Richard Steinitz and Christopher Fox; in London with Steve Martland; in the Hague with Louis Andriessen, Martijn Padding and Richard Ayres; and with Roger Redgate at Goldsmiths.
Since then he has toured to many countries with Trance Map, his duo and ensemble project with Evan Parker. He is a Professor of Composition and Sonic Art at Canterbury Christ Church University, and an associate researcher at the Orpheus Institute, Ghent.
